Operation Christmas Child

Shoe Box Dedication – November 13th – 5 weeks to go and get your boxes ready to ship!

Operation Christmas Child is a unique opportunity to become involved in global evangelism. The only requirements are empty shoe boxes, a variety of small gifts, and a desire to take God’s love to hurting children around the world. Congregations all over the country fill shoe boxes with toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and an assortment of other small gifts and take them to Operation Christmas Child drop-off locations in November. Shoe box gifts are then sent to regional processing centers, where thousands of volunteers prepare them for overseas shipment. Shoe box gifts are a tangible demonstration of God’s love to children and families living in difficult circumstances, and prepare hearts to hear the Good News of Jesus. As the gifts are distributed, local Christians offer colorful storybooks about Jesus to the children in their own language. Local churches continue to minister to the children through follow-up Bible study materials.

Filling a Shoe Box

Pick up a shoe box in the kitchen here at Church or find an empty shoe box. If you would like to wrap your box, wrap the bottom and the lid separately (wrapping is not required). In any case, the lid needs to come off for other things to be put in the box from the regional centers. Determine whether your gift is for a girl or a boy and their age category: 2-4 years, 5-9 years, 10-14 years. Choose some of your gifts from these suggestions:

TOYS: stuffed animals, dolls, balls, cars, etc. (No toy guns, knives, etc.)

SCHOOL SUPPLIES: Pens, pencils, sharpeners, crayons, markers, paper.

HYGIENE ITEMS: Toothbrush, toothpaste, bar soap, comb, brush. (No liquid soaps, shampoos etc.)

OTHER: T-shirts, socks, Bible story picture books, sealed hard candy or gum. (No other food items, no liquids or chocolate)

Enclose $7 to help cover shipping and other costs. Checks are recommended rather than cash, payable to Samaritan’s Purse (NOT Community Baptist Church). Boxes available in kitchen along with name labels.

Place a rubber band around your shoe box and lid, use labels supplied with the box and indicate either “Boy” or “Girl” and their age category. Bring your shoe box to church for the special dedication in November.

Family Pictures

Sunday After Service

November 27th, December 4th, and 11th

The holiday season brings much happiness, wonderment, and joy. It also brings parties and shopping, and baking, and wrapping and caroling, and mailing, and ..... OH WAIT! Did I forget to take a family picture again???? If you're like me, this tends to be the sounds of Christmas. So, let me give the gift of a lasting memory to my new family in Christ. On November 27th, December 4th, and December 11th, I will stay after service to take family pictures for those who want them. Keep in mind that I am in no way, shape or form a professional photographer. I have no pretty backdrops or expensive equipment. We will set up in the sanctuary with the festive decorations as our background. You can get your pictures in several different ways. I can email them to you or copy them onto a CD at no charge. Or I can take them in for printing in various sizes at Costco prices. A sign up sheet will be posted on the bulletin board. Pick the date you would like to have the picture taken. Order forms will be available on the day of the shoot. Choose the format you want your pictures back in and how many. Payment for printed copies will need to be paid on the day of the shoot and photos will be available the following Sunday. For those families that can't make it into church for health reasons, please give me a call so that arrangements can be made for me to come to your home - 760-731-9316. And remember, your friends are our friends, so please extend this invitation to everyone. Friends, Family, Neighbors. Invite them to come to Sunday Service and get their pictures taken as well.

Merry Christmas and God Bless, Veronica Carlson br />

Baby Care Kits

We are still making up Baby Care Kits to be sent to, Church World Service who sends them where they are most needed.

You can still help as we are going to make this an ongoing project, listed are the items required per kit.

6 cloth diapers ; 2 T-shirts or undershirts; 2 washcloths; 2 gowns or sleepers; 2 diapers pins (we have extra’s);1 sweater or sweatshirt (can be hand knitted or crocheted), 2 receiving blankets (one can be hand-knitted or crocheted).

Items must be new and under 12 months in size.

Instructions on how to prepare the kits are available. Many of these items can be purchased at the Dollar Store, WalMart.com, etc.   Church World Service asks for a donation of $2.00 per kit for processing.

It costs approximately $3.00 per kit for us to ship these kits to Church World Service. If you would like to help out with the shipping costs, you can make a check out to CBC and in the memo section of your check put “Kit Fund” The money in this designated fund will help us to cover these costs.

The need is great, so this will be an ongoing effort. If you would like more information on how to help out, please contact Paul Patterson (760 723-0818).
